I have a resident who is currently eligible for a Hamilton CapTel phone. Can I get them one for no cost?

Yes! By certifying that your resident is an individual with hearing loss who needs Captioned Telephone Service to communicate in a manner that is functionally equivalent to telephone service experienced by individuals without hearing difficulties, your resident can obtain a Hamilton CapTel phone at no-cost.
What if my resident doesn’t want to fill out the form? Can they obtain a Hamilton CapTel phone a different way?

The Hamilton CapTel phone is also available direct to individuals for a cost of $75 and can be purchased online or by calling 877-662-4144.
How long will the phone be available at no cost? Will this change?

Captioned Telephone Service (IP CTS) is regulated and funded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC may change IP CTS regulations at any time with little notice. As a result, Hamilton CapTel program rules, guidelines and pricing may change. What steps do my residents need to take to get a Hamilton CapTel phone?

You and your resident simply fill out the appropriate sections of the Certificate of Hearing Loss/Order Form for processing by Hamilton CapTel. You may also request printed order forms and keep hard copies in your office.
Can I still receive materials relevant to the Hamilton CapTel phone and other options such as Hamilton CapTel for PC/Mac, Smartphones and Tablets at no cost?

Yes! All educational and informational materials are available at no cost. You may order a demo phone and display stand at no cost as well.

FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. Automatic speech recognition software generates captions of what the other party to the call says, and, in certain circumstances, a live communications assistant may be included on the call to make needed corrections and/or add call details. The captions are then sent to the phone. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund. To learn more, visit fcc.gov. Third-party charges may apply: the Hamilton CapTel phone requires high-speed internet access (Wi-Fi capable) and in some cases, may require telephone service. When using Hamilton CapTel on a smartphone or tablet and not on Wi-Fi, a data plan is required. Hamilton CapTel may be used to make 911 calls but may not function the same as traditional 911 services.
